Tackling Child Exploitation in Asia: Interview with Bushra Zulfiqar from Terre Des Hommes Netherlands
Child exploitation is a global phenomenon, yet it manifests differently from country to country. In Asia, one of the most common forms of child exploitation is human trafficking. Victims often come from impoverished communities and are forced into either prostitution, child marriages, or armed forces. Asia’s rapidly growing economy has made these communities accessible to people with money, enabling this practice to develop into a lucrative business.
In this video, Green Network Asia sat with Bushra Zulfiqar, Terre des Hommes Netherlands Regional Director for Asia, to talk about child exploitation in Asia and what we need to understand as stakeholders in sustainable development, the importance of involving the financial sector, and her organization’s approach to fighting child exploitation.
